This card is another project for the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) Level 1. It applies principles taught in the ‘Clean & Simple Boutique Cards’ class in the Altenew Academy, which is designed as an instructional class on creating boutique style cards.
I began this card by prepping my card base. I embossed the sentiment in copper embossing powder using sentiment stamps from Altenew ‘Happy Together’ stamp set. I used my scoring tool to score some intersecting lines onto the base. I had planned to keep layers to a minimum so this decorative element helps to draw the eye towards the floral center piece.
The florals featured on this card are all from Altenew ‘Wallpaper Art’ stamp set, and have been die cut using the co-ordinating dies. I stamped the images on white translucent vellum paper in VersaMark ink and I used embossing powder to heat emboss the stamped images. You must be careful when heat embossing on vellum as it is very easy to burn or warp. Move your heat gun constantly or heat it from the underside of the vellum.
Next, I wanted to give my card a slight touch of color so I die cut some light pink and dark green card stock using the same dies from the ‘Wallpaper Art’ set. I used small pieces of scor-tape to adhere the flowers and leaves to the matching colored die cuts, which gives just a hint of color though the translucent vellum.
Next, I assembled my flowers in a way that I felt was visually appealing and adhered them to my card base. I finished this card by adding just a few sequins as accents. I kept this card simple by minimizing layers but I feel that the vellum and embossing help give it a luxurious feel. I look forward to applying these techniques again soon!
